Welcome to The Greater Dayton Labrador Retriever Rescue and Referral site. We have some great dogs currently up for adoption.
Our mission is to rescue and re-home purebred Labrador Retrievers and lab mixes 5 years or younger that have the look and temperament of a lab into loving and caring homes. Our goal is to help local shelters place a dog that has reached the time limit, take in the neglected and unwanted dog, and in some cases injured ones.
GDLRR was started in December 2004 by a group of business women who saw a need in the Dayton Ohio area. In the last six months, we have branched out and now have numerous fosters in Columbus OH as well. Due to the popularity of the Labrador Retriever in the US and rated as AKC’s most popular breed for the last 15 years, has caused over breeding. We help to find homes for these unwanted dogs by placing them in a loving foster caregiver’s home until a permanent home can be found. We feel by having dogs in a home environment, we can share information about the dog and assist in getting the dog crate trained, basic obedience, socialization skills, and housebreaking.
All unaltered adult dogs and puppies over 8 weeks of age brought into the rescue are spayed/neutered. They have been vet checked, fecal tested for parasites – treated if needed, heartworm negative or have been treated for heartworms, heartworm preventative given, all vaccinations are updated including a 1 year rabies, micro chipped, all pre-existing injuries or medical problems are treated by a licensed vet, and they have been groomed from head to tail.

We are very fortunate to have rehabilitated and re-homed 350 rescued dogs to good homes - as one gets adopted another one takes their place. You can also contact us with a specific request and if a dog you desire becomes available, we can call to set up a time to meet the dog. Our dogs have been placed with fosters located in all parts of the Dayton area. Once you have gone through our application process, select a dog(s) and would like to arrange a visit, our Rescue Director will put you in contact with the foster care giver. If the dog is right for you, the adoption will take place that day and the dog will be starting a new life with you.
